The World Bank Tokyo Office was established in 1970 with the primary objective to foster dialogue and partnerships with key counterparts, including: the Government (especially the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)), local and international media, parliamentarians, civil society and NGOs, youth groups, academics and universities, and the private sector. The Tokyo Office’s activities aim at increasing knowledge and awareness in Japan about the Bank’s development activities, and on generating greater appreciation within the Bank of Japan’s development assistance. To this end, it disseminates the latest information on World Bank policies and activities regarding development issues to the widest possible audience, and stimulates debate on development issues through seminars and conferences, and promotes policy dialogue with government and other development partners and institutions; and finally, disseminates information and publications via its website and the Public Information Center (PIC).
