Coffee Hour with Tanzania Ambassador

December 21, 2005, Tokyo --“Coffee Hour with African Ambassador” was held today at the World Bank Public Information Center in Tokyo, inviting His Excellency E.E.E. Mtango, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Tanzania to Japan as the keynote speaker.

This coffee hour series is organized jointly with the TICAD Civil Society Forum, a Japanese civil society organization engaged in research and policy dialogue on assistance to African countries.

 

Tanzania is the largest country in East Africa, attracting tourists from all over the world.   Ambassador Mtango in his speech introduced 6 World Heritage sites in Tanzania, and the country’s rich nature and biodiversity showing photos and video.

 

Professor Masao Yoshida of Nihon Fukushi University served as a commentator.  He is well known expert in Japan of Tanzania’s rural villages and agricultural development and a member of TICAD Civil Society Forum.  Prof. Yoshida introduced the economic dimensions of Tanzania, particularly the need for water and other infrastructure in rural villages.

 

About 30 people participated with variety of background including government, civil society, private sector, academics and youth.    The next coffee hour with African Ambassador will be held in February 2006.
