Throughout its history Pakistan has been plagued by cycles of high growth interrupted by shocks and crises and followed by relative stagnation. Social indicators for both health and education have remained low and have lagged behind other countries in the region. In addition, massive human, economic and infrastructure impacts were caused by recent floods in 2010 and 2011. The next few years are deemed critical in terms of gaining fiscal and economic stability required for equitable growth and development.
Taking the opportunity of the visit by Mr. Rachid Benmessaoud, the World Bank’s Country Director for Pakistan, we would like to invite you for a public seminar titled " Challenges and Prospects of Pakistan: Role of World Bank", which features his presentation and commentary by Salman Zaheer, World Bank’s Program Director of Regional Integration in South Asia Region, and invites participants to an interactive discussion on challenges, prospects and the role of the World Bank in Pakistan.
