On the occasion of the visit by Mr. Stephen Lintner, World Bank Senior Advisor for Quality Assurance and Compliance, the World Bank Tokyo Office will organize a seminar on the World Bank’s Safeguard Policies. At the seminar, Mr. Lintner will give a presentation about background, recent update and practical cases of 10 environment and social safeguard policies: environment assessment, natural habitats, pest management, involuntary resettlement, indigenous people, forests, safety of dams, cultural property, projects in international waterways, and projects in disputed areas.

Profile
Stephen Lintner is the Bank's senior professional and advisor on issues concerning the environmental and social safeguard policies. His responsibilities include coordination and oversight of the Quality Assurance and Compliance Unit (QACU), which provides bank-wide support for implementation of safeguard policies and associated disclosure requirements. The safeguard policies include: environmental assessment, natural habitats, sustainable forestry, involuntary resettlement, indigenous people, cultural resources, pest management, dam safety, international waterways and disputed areas. Prior to joining the Bank, Mr. Lintner held positions at the University of Chicago's Oriental Institute, United States Geological Survey and United States Agency for International Development. Since joining the Bank, he has worked as senior environmental specialist in the Europe, Middle East and North Africa region and lead specialist for freshwater, coastal and marine resources in the Environment department.
