This technical workshop in Tokyo is part of a series of stakeholder workshops to be conducted in different cities in August and September to ensure that the proposed project’s objectives, potential benefits and impacts are transparent, debated, and well-understood not only within Lao PDR but also more broadly within the international stakeholder community. They are intended to provide information about the proposed project and to hear about the concerns and views of those interested in the project, with a view to providing feedback to the Government of Laos and NTPC as they finalize the safeguards documents for the proposed project.
Links to the draft safeguards documents can be found at http://www.namtheun2.com; an additional document, the Summary Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (SESIA) is available on-line; please call WB Tokyo office for hard copies. The Japanese language translation of SESIA will be available in the second week of August – and will be posted on the http://www.namtheun2.com/gallery/library.htm website.
