Lao PDR has the largest hydropower potential in the region but only a small percentage of it has been developed to date.

The hydropower sector is one of the most thoroughly planned sectors in Lao PDR from an economic and technical point of view. In the past few decades a number of studies have been carried out to establish a realistic list of projects and the most economic viable sequence for their construction.
