What is TFET?

The Trust Fund for East Timor (TFET) is a multi-donor trust fund that has supported reconstruction and development activities since early 2000. TFET donors are Portugal, the European Commission, Japan, Australia, United Kingdom, Finland, USA, Ireland, New Zealand, Italy and the World Bank Post Conflict Fund. Current TFET programs are underway in agriculture, economics and institutional capacity building, education, health, small enterprise development, roads, power and petroleum sector technical assistance. All TFET projects are implemented by Government Ministries.

 

Recent key deliverables from TFET projects include:

  • Draft legislation for Petroleum production, taxation and revenue management.
  • National Health Policy framework, 28 community health centers built, the reconstruction of the National Hospital launched, and improved rates of child immunization.
  • About 2,800 classrooms rehabilitated, 51 new primary schools have been completed, 8 new primary schools are under construction, and over 2 million text books distributed and quarterly publication of 'Lafaek' magazine for children.
  • 3,908 ha of community irrigation schemes rehabilitated.
  • 11,491 local entrepreneurs (39 percent women, 18 percent youth) trained in five regional Business Development Centers.
  • Investment and Export Promotion Agency established.
  • 41 out of 73 markets rehabilitated, with 28 markets handed over to the community with an emphasis on equal opportunity to women traders.
