Dili, October 10, 2005---About 20 Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) and Universities across the country received computers from the World Bank at a brief ceremony held on Friday, October 7, 2005, at the World Bank Office in Licidere.

The donation is part of the Bank’s efforts to support NGOs involved in the areas of health, education, social services, governance, job training and other development programs in areas supported by the Bank. The computers consist of minimum Pentium II processor with CR-ROM, monitor, keyboard and mouse.

 

Speaking at the ceremony Ms Elisabeth Huybens, the Country Manager said “the Bank is happy to donate these computers to NGOs and universities with libraries where they will be of use to students. In this way we hope to make a small contribution to the partnership with civil society for the implementation of the National Development Plan (NDP)”.

On behalf of the awardees Mr Christopher Henry Samson, the Executive Director of NGO Lalenok ba Ema Hotu (LABEH),  said, “Lalenok Ba Ema Hotu (LABEH) wishes to thank the World Bank Timor-Leste for providing assistance of one used computer for our organization and for the civil society organizations especially NGOs and Educational Institutions to facilitate their daily activities, we hope that this would help our organization and others who receive these computers to use it to facilitate effective Timorese participation in the development process of our country and to improve communication between the World Bank and the Timorese NGOs".

                       

The NGOs that received the computers are: Dili Institute of Technology (DIT), Cailalo, Underena Timor-Leste, Timor Aid Tulun Rai Timor, Hafoun Timor Lorosa’e, Peace and Democracy Foundation (PDF), Amplimentel Foundation, Forum Solidaridade Buka Hatene, Lalenok ba Ema Hotu (LABEH), East Timor People Action (EPTA), Movemento Estudante Cristão Timor-Leste, Foundacão Pró Bem, Comunidade Recursos da Ambiente (Corea), AMAR Fundation, Akademi Computer Manajame “System Click”, Forum Tau Matan (FTM), East Timor Blind Union, Berleba Haburas, East Timor Patria Libertaão Foundation (ESPADA), Fo Liman Servi Liquica.
