Dili, May 09, 2008 - The World Bank is delighted to join the Government of Timor-Leste and AusAid in launching the Health Sector Strategy Support Plan Project.
“We are very aware that the people of Timor-Leste face enormous health challenges. This project will assist the Ministry of Health to meet its aims of reducing child and maternal mortality, and controlling the spread of HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases. In other words we want to join the Ministry’s effort to increase the provision of health quality services and contribute to improve the health status of the Nation”, said the World Bank Country Manager for Timor-Leste, Mr. Antonio S. Franco.
The Bank is proud to have the opportunity to, jointly with AusAID, support the Ministry of Health to manage the Project implementation and in particular to contribute to the country’s National Health Plan. A Multi-Donor Trust Fund has been established to financially support the Project.
The World Bank’s involvement in this project is part of our strategy for assisting Timor-Leste to deliver sustainable services, create productive employment and strengthening governance. This Project is an integral part of our commitment to improving the lives and opportunities for the Timorese people to achieve their aspirations of a bright and better future.
