SMALL GRANTS FOR CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATIONS

Available in: Bosnian

SARAJEVO, Bosnia-Herzegovina, March 12, 2008 – the World Bank office in Bosnia and Herzegovina has established the Civil Society Fund (previously known as the Small Grants Program) and invites all interested local civil society organizations in Bosnia and Herzegovina to send their applications for this program. As in the previous years, the program will support innovative proposals focused on the vulnerable groups (disabled, people with special needs, minorities, youth, etc).

This is the ninth consecutive year in which the World Bank awards small grants to civil society in Bosnia and Herzegovina. These grants – usually in the range from 3,000 to 7,000 US$ per organization – are being awarded following a highly competitive process, which is necessary having in mind the usual high number of applications and limited amount of funding available.

The main theme for this year will be strengthening civic engagement in policy dialogue on development priorities and implications for the most vulnerable categories of population. Interested organizations should submit their project proposals to the World Bank by April 11, 2008. Winners will be selected by a commission which will include representatives of civil society organizations, members of the Youth Voices Group and the World Bank. The total amount of grant funding available for this year is US$ 35,000.
