Begins:   Apr 10, 2008 09:00
Ends:   Apr 10, 2008 14:00

A half-day workshop on national assessment of student achievement was held in Uzbekistan country office. Over 30 participants representing Ministry of Public education of Uzbekistan took part in the event. The Workshop aimed at promoting the use of student assessments in this country.

The World Bank team including Maureen McLaughlin, Task team Leader for Basic Education Project, as well as education consultants Ana Maria Sandi and Juan Prawda, brought international experience in student assessments and exchanged working practice with local specialists with previous experience in the issue. A new World Bank publication entitled "National assessments of educational achievements" was also presented to the workshop participants. The report describes the main features of national and international assessments, both of which became extremely popular tools for determining the quality of education in the 1990s and 2000s. Presentations and discussions contributed to creating a common understanding of what student assessments are and sharing knowledge and tools useful for implementation of the Basic Education Project assessment component.
