Central Asia Development Marketplace 2009 (CADM 2009) competition received 145 applications from five countries in the region. Applications were submitted by NGOs, farmers and water users associations, farms, research institutes, and academia. All applications were evaluated by a panel of judges composed of experts from five Central Asian countries. As result of the first round, 40 finalists were selected to participate in the final event that will be organized on June 25-26, 2009 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Click here for the list of finalists (MSExcel, 53 kb) As it was described in the Competition Guidelines, the panel of experts evaluated all applications according to a standard set of criteria. Applications that were not selected for the final round received lower scores for one or several criteria used for assessment. The following are the evaluation criteria: 1. Innovation (10 scores maximum) How does the project differ from existing approaches? Innovation is a major differentiating element of Development Marketplace competitions compared to other development grant programs. All proposals selected for funding should incorporate new methods that go beyond standard water use and management projects. 2. Results (10 scores maximum) Will the project have clear and measurable results that will have a direct impact on improving efficiency of water use in agriculture in one of the following areas: rainfed agriculture, irrigated agriculture, and management of river basins? 3. Sustainability (8 scores maximum) Does the project have the potential to continue beyond CADM 2009 funding? 4. Growth Potential (6 scores maximum) Does the idea have the potential for expansion? Can it be replicated elsewhere? 5. Realism / Organizational Capacity (6 scores maximum) What is the organization’s capacity to implement the project? How realistic is implementation of the project?
