Workshop on Procurement on World Bank financed projects

Procurement workshopTirana, June 18, 2008 – The World Bank Office in Tirana in cooperation with Tirana Chamber of Commerce and Industry, American Chamber of Commerce and Albanian Builder’s Association organized the Procurement Business Workshop titled “How to bid successfully in Bank-financed projects”.  The main objective of this workshop is to give information and guidance to local business community on how to bid for contracts in bank financed projects as well as to get their feedback on what could be improved in implementation of Bank-financed projects, related to bidding procedures.

Procurement workshopWorld Bank procurement experts presented key topics which are of interest to business community such as: where to find information on the business opportunities financed by the Bank, role of the Bank and Government in the bidding procedures, main procurement methods, treatment of  complaints and Bank financed portfolio in Albania. 

We feel that we can contribute more to the development of the country by listening to the voice of business that is the driving force of the country economy and development,” said Camille Nuamah, Country Manager for World Bank Tirana Office. “We are pleased to note that there is an increased number of contracts awarded to local business which speaks of significant development of local businesses”. 

Procurement workshop Currently, the World Bank is financing in Albania a portfolio of 16 projects with a total commitment of $266 million (including IDA, IBRD and GEF). The projects cover the following main sectors: (i) transport and energy infrastructure; (ii) natural resources and irrigation investments; (iii) education and health sectors to strengthen the quality of social services; (iv) strengthened land administration; (v) energy efficiency; (vii) transport and infrastructure as well as (viii) strengthening of business environment.
