Your NO helps - Public Debate on Anticorruption

Youth Voice Group in cooperation with the Citizen Advocacy Office (CAO), a well-known NGO, organized a joint activity on anticorruption. Corruption is a very sensitive issue for the Bank and also for the country as well as for the YVG members. The activity tried to raise awareness on concrete actions against corruptions in schools. This activity involved the students, teachers, and parent’s community of three high schools in Tirana.

The aim of this activity was to raise transparency on the funding of these schools by the government and the funding raised by the students community. First it was organized a survey (through Focus Group and Poll methods) on students, teachers and school directory’s representatives to estimate the level of transparency and level of youth participation in decision making in Tirana’s schools. Following the survey three public debates were organized in Partizani, Sami Frasheri and Ismail Qemali high schools with different stakeholders. The debates topics will be the public transparency, corruption in education and pupils’ contribution on schools budget.

anticorruption activityThe activity was closed by placing “Transparency Boards” publishing the annual school’s budget on the three schools. These boards will serve to teachers, pupils and their parents to be informed about the amount of money that the Municipality and the Ministry of Education give to high schools and what expenses are covered from this budget. On the other hand, these boards will publish the pupils’ contribution for the school’s budget; hence pupils will be informed where their contribution goes and how school’s directory manages their money. As in every other event, a short report was prepared for this activity.
