World Bank decentralized Small Grants Program is a competitive program which supports initiatives of Belarussian civil society organizations. SmGP’2007 focuses on environmental protection. Four project-winners of the World Bank SmGP'2007 in Belarus were identified as a result of evaluation of 26 proposals aimed at empowering and developing small communities, encouraging inter-sector partnerships, and establishing basic mechanisms for cooperation between civil society organizations and local authorities. In Belarus the Small Grants Program has been implemented since 1999 and during these years 54 projects of non-governmental organizations have received support in the amount of about US$300 thousand. These projects have been selected out of more than 500 applications .
