Partnership between the Bank and the United Nations has existed since the very start of both organisations (1944 and 1945, respectively). It has evolved considerably in areas of mutual interest to both parties, including poverty reduction, sustained development, investment in people, environmental protection and other economic and social issues.
International Monetary Fund (IMF), was founded jointly with the World Bank at the Bretton Woods conference in 1944. Although IMF functions are complementary to those of the World Bank Group, organizationally it is completely separate. While the World Bank provides assistance to developing countries, the IMF serves to stabilize the international monetary system and acts as a monitor of the world's currencies.
The current World Bank Strategy of cooperation with Belarus is designed to capitalize on the Bank’s comparative advantages and maximize synergies with other donors and international financial institutions. The Bank works in close cooperation with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), European Union (EU), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), OSCE office and bilateral donors (e.g. USAID) . |
