Participation of the Youth Voices Group (YVG) at Youth Activism Days - YAD

10 – 12 December 2008, International Youth Centre Grbavica, Sarajevo

The Youth Voices Group actively participated at the first YOUTH ACTIVISM DAYS (YAD).  YAD were held from December the 10^th to December the 12^th 2008 at the International Youth Centre Grbavica. It was organised by the Youth Information Agency of BH, and co-organised by the City of Sarajevo, Canton Sarajevo and several municipalities. This was a three-day event which promoted various forms of youth activism in society. Several thousands of young people, pupils and students, gathered at the event, along with representatives of media, different institutions, public institutions, youth services, and non-governmental institutions with a certain experience in working with youth. It was a great opportunity for the promotion of the Youth Voices Group, a consulting body for youth issues which acts as part of the World Bank Office in Sarajevo. The opportunity was seized to promote the recently issued brochure “UKLJUCI SE” which the Youth Voices Group prepared with the purpose of encouraging the involvement of young people in the reform processes in the country.

The members of the Youth Voices Group also took part in the fair of organisations, programmes and youth services. The visitors of the stand of the Youth Voices Group reacted positively and were most pleasantly surprised by the activities of the Youth Voices Group.   

On the last day of the YAD, the members of the Youth Voices Group actively participated in the discussion on the topic „Establishing a strong and active Pupil Council of Canton Sarajevo“ where leaders of local pupil councils, pedagogues, as well as representatives of cantonal educational institutions were present.

The representatives of the Youth Voices Group, who took part in the discussion, pointed out the following:

• The importance of participation of youth in reforms in BH
• The active participation of the World Bank, as an instrument for achieving development goals,
• Programmes of the World Bank which directly refer to employment and education, where youth is the biggest category
• The promotion of the PIC centre (Public Information Centre) as a place where young people can acquire additional knowledge and information on issues related to economic development, and
• The importance to gain enough knowledge, before continuing their education after the high school.

A few leaders of youth organisations have also become members of the Facebook group of the Youth Voices Group which will continue their interest in the work of the group and of the World Bank Office in BH. The promotion of the brochure „NAZIV“ will be continued at other youth forums, as well as at Universities in BH.
