Iceland hosted a meeting between the World Bank Group President Robert B. Zoellick and his counterparts from the Nordic and Baltic countries in Reykjavik on March 13th. President Zoellick spent a day with Ministers of Finance, Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation from Iceland, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden to discuss how the Nordic and Baltic countries and the World Bank Group best can cooperate to contribute to an inclusive and sustainable globalization.
World Bank Group President Zoellick and the Nordic and Baltic ministers discussed the strategic directions of the World Bank Group, with a special emphasis on the World Bank’s role in the poorest countries, including fragile states; in responding to climate change; and in supporting the role of women in promoting development and economic growth.
President Zoellick also had a separate meeting with Iceland’s Governor to the World Bank, Minister for Foreign Affairs Ms. Ingibjörg Sólrún Gísladóttir, and the two also met with the press after the meeting.
