The goal of the workshop, which was co-sponsored by the World Bank Group, the UK Department for International Development and INWENT, was to bring together leading government officials in internal audit from European and Central Asian countries and territories to share their experiences in designing and implementing reforms in the internal audit function in their respective countries or territories.Â
By bringing together Heads of Internal Audit institutions and other relevant officials currently implementing reform initiatives in this area, the workshop was aimed at providing an opportunity for countries to benefit from the experiences of countries facing similar challenges. The workshop introduced a new initiative to enhance learning and knowledge development among Heads of Internal Audit institutions and related key officials in internal audit issues in the region.
Based on the results of the earlier PEM PAL Workshop held in April in Warsaw and the lessons learnt from the similar event for the Heads of Treasuries held in June in Ljubljana, the workshop was tailored closely to the interests of the participants. Part of the workshop program was presented by the World Bank. In addition to sharing knowledge, the intention of the workshop was to establish a Community of Practice for the Heads of Internal Audit Institutions as part of the Public Expenditure Management Peer Assisted Learning (PEM PAL) Program which will offer various opportunities to get access to practical examples of reforms and good practices in the Central and Eastern European countries.
