Best Essays Win Up To USD 5000 and Get Presented At the

ABCDE Conference in Slovenia in May

 

 

SARAJEVO, Bosnia and Herzegovina, February 7, 2007 – The World Bank invites all interested youth in Bosnia and Herzegovina, to participate in the annual World Bank global essay contest, and share their experience and ideas on fighting corruption. The best essays describing how corruption affects youth and how to fight it will be awarded with USD 5,000 and USD 1,000 awards.

 

The submission process for the Essay Competition 2006 is entirely Internet-based and all those interested can find appropriate links and information through the World Bank local web site: www.worldbank.ba. In the previous few years, this regular World Bank competition triggered several million of web hits, while several thousand essays were submitted from all over the world. One of the finalists in the 2005 competition was Sarajevo student Safet Hadzimuhamedovic with his essay about the importance of tolerance in the contemporary world.

 

Winning essays in the 2007 competition will be chosen for their originality, clarity and use of concrete proposals related to the topic. The youth are free to develop their essays in any way they find to be the most convincing. The deadline for submission of essays is March 15. The finalists will be announced on April 20 and will be invited to present their works at the final awards ceremony during the ABCDE Conference in Bled, Slovenia May 18, 2007.

 

Annual World Bank Global Youth Essay Competition has few simple rules including that participants must be between 18 and 25 years of age; that each participant can only submit one essay; that essays should not be longer than 10 pages (4,000 words, maximum, 1.5 line-spaced); that essays can only be submitted online, in English, French or Spanish; and that each essay must be accompanied by an abstract (max. one page), which will be used by the jury to make a pre-selection.
