 Peter Thomson, Sector Director, joined the Bank in 1997. Prior to joining the Bank, he worked for more than twenty years in the oil and gas industry, primarily with Mobil Corporation where he held numerous technical and managerial positions, including the post of President of the Mobil Companies in Turkey; Vice President of Mobil Europe; and Assistant Treasurer of Mobil Corporation. Since being associated with the Bank , he has been extensively involved with the development of energy strategies for countries within the former Soviet Union. He has taken a lead role in assessing implicit subsidies and the associated quasi fiscal deficit in the energy sectors of the CIS countries. He has also worked with the oil funds of Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan and has had substantial involvement in developing the tools to project oil revenues in those countries.
