Istvan DOBOZI, Lead Energy Economist, joined the Bank in 1992. He has worked on energy sector issues in the ECA region, including investment operations and policy work in Kazakhstan, Bulgaria, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Ukraine, Belarus and Georgia. Co-authored the book "Energy and Economic Reform in the Former Soviet Union" and published numerous articles in leading journals, including Resources Policy, Natural Resources Forum, Minerals and Energy, and Oxford Energy Forum. He is on the International Editorial Board of Resources Policy and Minerals and Energy. Before joining the Bank, he was Professor of Mineral Economics at the Colorado School of Mines, Golden, Colorado, and Professor of Economics at the Arizona State University, Tempe, Arizona. Previously, he was Director of Development Research in the Institute for World Economy in Budapest, Hungary.
Current Work Program: Energy Program Team Leader for Kazakhstan, Bulgaria, Slovakia and Hungary. Task Team Leader for Kazakhstan North-South Electricity Transmission Project, Kazakhstan Electricity Transmission Rehabilitation Project, and Bulgaria Energy Efficiency Project, all under implementation, as well as energy sector technical assistance in Bulgaria, Slovakia and Hungary.
Strengths: Project identification, conceptualization and development; energy tariffs (design and policy analysis); energy efficiency policies/projects; energy demand analysis (including modeling); international energy trade; and energy/macroeconomic linkages.
Education: Ph. D. in Natural Resource Economics, University of Economics, Budapest, 1978.
