Mr. Sood, an Indian national, joined the World Bank as a Young Professional in 1975. He assumed the position of Vice President, Strategy and Resource Management in March of 1999. He was responsible for carrying forward the implementation of Bankwide strategy, the allocation of resources across its worldwide operations, and support to the Bank's renewal program to increase its development effectiveness. In July, 2003, he took the position of Special Advisor to the Bank's Managing Directors and has also led the Bank's work in private and financial sector development in Europe and Central Asia.

Prior to assuming these positions, Mr. Sood was director of Regional Operations in the Europe and Central Asia (ECA) Region, managing regionwide functions overseeing the implementation of the regional renewal program. Between 1996 and 1997, he led the design and implementation or the thematic networks, which have upgraded skills across the sectors and regions, and provided a framework for knowledge management and sharing.

Between 1993 and 1996, Mr. Sood was Director of the ECA and Middle East and North Africa Regional Technical Department, where he managed teams of specialists across all sectors. From 1987 to 1992, he was Manager of Industry and Energy, Private sector Development, Finance and Country Operations for the ECA region where he managed the Bank's policy and reform dialogue in the region through the period of unprecedented transition. Between 1984 and 1987, he helped create and manage the buildup of the Bank's methodology and capacity in industrial restructuring and privatization.

Mr. Sood attained his BS in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in New Delhi; his MS in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University and his MBA in Finance and International Business from Harvard Business School.
