The ECA Private and Financial Sector Department
sponsored by the Team Learning Board announces a
Innovation and Competitiveness Workshop Series
for Bank-wide TTLs and Practitioners
In the past few decades, the Bank has gained significant experience involving over $4.2 billion financing related to projects in Innovation Systems and Knowledge Economy area. These interventions have been most extensive in building National Innovation Systems. (including upgrading MSTQ systems, strengthening Intellectual Property Rights Regimes, restructuring public R&D Institutions, establishing venture capital funds, supporting firm-level innovation and technology development, setting up technology centers and Technoparks, etc.) This divergent, varied and extensive experience in assisting client countries to enhance growth and competitiveness has been accumulated in various pockets across the Sectors and Regions of the Bank.
Two workshops on Innovation and Competitiveness (one HQ-based in Washington, DC on February 18, 2004, and one field-based in Istanbul, Turkey on April 19-21, 2004) to bring together Practitioners across the Bank and in Client countries to share experiences and best practices and identify commonalities in building Innovation Systems will be held. As demand for this increases amongst Client countries, a Practitioner-level working discussion on the key themes and issues in this arena will assist Client countries in identifying key focus areas to develop and strengthen in their own economies and will equip Bank Staff in meeting this demand effectively and proactivity.
These workshops will feature Experts and Practitioners from countries around the world with well-functioning Innovation systems to share their strategies and experiences.
