Ms. Mamta Murthi, an Indian national, joined the Bank in 1995 as a Young Professional.  She has since held various positions, her most recent assignments being Lead Economist, Europe and Central Asia Vice Presidency, and also Deputy Director (and lead author), World Development Report 2007, Development and the Next Generation. Ms. Mamta Murthi has a D. Phil. From the University of Oxford and has held academic positions of Sussex and Cambridge. Her areas of specialization are education, poverty and welfare, pensions, and economic demography. She is married and has two children.
