The World Bank engages an extraordinarily wide variety of donors in supporting the agriculture and rural sector in ECA Region, in a wide variety of ways. There is true cofinancing of the capital costs of projects, particularly in irrigation but also in land registration, with the Netherlands Government in several countries, and the Kuwait Fund, Islamic Development Bank, Governments of Japan, France, and Switzerland, the Aga Khan Foundation, GTZ, and several others. USAID and DFID (UK) have provided technical assistance in several countries, while Sweden and Austria have focused on the land administration field. Cooperation is good with the Asian Development Bank in Central Asia and the Caucasus, with the US Millennium challenge Corporation in Armenia and Georgia, and with various European development banks mainly in Eastern Europe. Finally, given the accomplished accession of eight client states to the EU, and the anticipated joining of three or four more in the medium-term, the EU itself has been perhaps the strategic partner of much of our work in ECA.
