The objective of this BBL was to draw on experiences from the design and implementation of a rural information and knowledge system in Russia. This system comprised of a variety of activities carried out in the Farmer Information and Advisory Services and Market information Systems Components of the Agricultural Reform Implementation Support Project (ARIS) in Russia between the period of 1992 and 2001.
The presentation described the context in which the project was initiated, results achieved and lessons learned. There was an emphasis on the Four M modular approaches taken –
using Multi-media to develop and disseminate Multi-disciplinary information and knowledge from Multiple sources to Multiple users with built in client information needs assessment and feedback mechanisms.
The presentation additionally applied the approaches taken in the creation of this information and knowledge system, for scaling up CDD in Central Asia.
