Regional CDD Workshop

1
2At the end of May 2002, practitioners from 10 different ECA countries met in Tirana, under the auspices of the World Bank and the Government of Albania, for a Regional Workshop on Community Driven Development (CDD).

The workshop was funded by the Learning Board as part of a joint effort of the CDD anchor and the social development teams in East Asia and ECA to present training activities at headquarters and in the two regions. WBI joined the effort in ECA and used the workshop as a vehicle for beginning preparation of a broader effort to build community level capacity to manage CDD in Central Asia. The Bank's Field Office in Tirana also played a key role in both organizing the workshop and in using this as a vehicle to bring together Albanian practitioners to share their experiences.

One of the innovations of the Tirana workshop was to ask selected participants to provide the conclusions of the workshop by reporting to the plenary on what they thought were the key findings, strengths, and weaknesses of the workshop. These presentations were universally positive while also making useful suggestions for doing better in the future.
