Social Development Initiative for South East Europe

This regional initiative aims to provide the Governments of South East Europe, the donor community involved in the region, and in particular the World Bank with the capacity to carry out social analyses, promote institution building, and launch pilot projects to address inter-ethnic tensions and social cohesion issues in South East Europe.

Policy Study on Youth in South Eastern Europe
The World Bank recently completed the report, Young People in South Eastern Europe: From Risk to Empowerment, and has disseminated it to the relevant governments and youth groups throughout the region. The report is now in the process of being discussed with different youth groups to obtain feedback on the study's results and policy recommendations.

Conference on Youth in South Eastern Europe - report (pdf)
This report of the Rome Conference on Participation, Empowerment, and Social Inclusion, held in June 2002, is now available. This report was prepared with joint support from UNICEF and the World Bank.

Croatia Social and Economic Recovery Project (CSERP) under preparation
The aim of the CSERP multisectoral project is to increase social cohesion and sustainable economic opportunities among different war-affected and marginalized groups within the different ethnic communities living in Croatia's war-affected areas.

Early Child Care and Development (ECCD) Project in Macedonia: Impact Evaluation
In partnership with UNICEF, the World Bank is developing impact evaluation of the ECCD pilot project in order to offer recommendations to policy makers on possible scaling up.
