INBETWEENESS: Balkans, Metaphors of Change
INBETWEENESS aims to explore multiple aspects of what might be understood as “being in between”, being in a state of transition and transformation, both individually and collectively, and to tackle issues like nomadism, mobility, marginalization, uncertainty, cultural diversity and displacement. The exhibition is the first large-scale presentation of artists coming form the Balkan region in one collective space in Rome, the ‘Ex Carceri del Complesso di San Michele a Ripa’. It takes a panoramic view of artistic practices that have emerged in the most recent times, with a focus on younger generations of artists who mainly live and work outside their countries of origin. The exhibition’s inauguration is to be attended by Danielle Mazzonis, Undersecretary, Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Italy, and Ludovico Pratesi, one of the exhibition’s two curators along with Dobrila Denegri.
