WASHINGTON, May 13, 2008 – The World Bank Board of Directors today approved two projects to FYR Macedonia for a total of US$125 million to develop regional and local roads and support policy reforms.

The Regional and Local Roads Program Support Project will be supported by a loan of US$100 million from the international Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and will aim to reduce the cost of access to markets and services for communities served by regional and local roads. The project objective would be achieved mostly by improving the condition and quality of a part of the network of Regional and Local roads.

The Third Programmatic Development Policy Loan will be supported with a US$25 million loan from the IBRD and will support the Government in tackling reforms to improve the investment climate and governance and efficiency of the public sector.

Both IBRD loans will have a maturity of 40 years with a 10 year grace period.
