Colombia. Approved May 23: IBRD loan of $65 million for a package of infrastructure investments, technical assistance and institutional support for the urban transport sector in the district of Bogota. The four-part project includes works, equipment and consultant services to improve transport flows in major transit corridors; designs, works and supervision to pave and upgrade 30 km of access roads into low-income areas; road maintenance and repair of about 400 lane-km of roads used by public transport; and institutional support. Kyrgyz. Approved May 23: IDA credit of $20 million for a power and district heating project to finance investments for the rehabilitation of the thermal power plant and heating system in Bishkek, and to reinforce transmission and distribution facilities in the north of the country. The project will also provide technical assistance, training, and project engineering and implementation support. Technical assistance will be provided to the government to continue the works in the petroleum sector, initiated by the Bank with Norwegian and Japanese funding, and to promote exploration in the Kyrgyz sedimentary basins. Moldova. Approved May 23: IBRD loan of $10 million for an energy project that will help finance the overhaul of a combined heat and power plant in Chisinay and the repair of about 180 leaky gas distribution points. The project will also finance gas meter installation, the upgrading of accounting and billing systems and financial management, and will provide management and implementation services. Tanzania. Approved May 23: IDA credit of $105 million for an urban rehabilitation project that will improve infrastructure in eight towns, in Dar es Salaam and in Dodoma. The four-part project includes: rehabilitation and expansion of services (roads, storm drains, sanitation, solid waste management); a community-based upgrading program and emergency support for water supply in Dar es Salaam; institutional strengthening through training and technical assistance; and studies for future project preparation.
