Improving the Lives of People in Europe and Central Asia (2010)

Improving the Lives of People in ECA (ILPE) is the Europe and Central Asia (ECA) Region’s annual results event. Launched in 2008, it shares best practices, encourages debate and recognizes competitively selected teams. The first ILPE, which took place in April 2008, showcased 19 strong examples of achieving results on the ground through investment operations, DPLs, and knowledge activities. The three-day event consisted of a series of panel discussions and workshops organized around the Bank’s six strategic themes. The second ILPE took place in February 2009. It showcased 13 ECA activities, also selected through a contest, that have produced strong results contributing to the Bank's strategic goals. In 2010, the June ILPE event will be a shorter but more intensive half-day learning event focusing on projects and AAA that have timely relevance to the difficult times ECA countries have recently faced. This year’s winners have shown success in responding to crises, including the food price crisis, post-conflict situations, and response to the recent economic and financial crises.
