Georgia: Primary Health Care Development Project

CREDIT AMOUNT:  IDA—US$20.34 million

TERMS:  Grace period = 10 years; Maturity = 40 years

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:  This project will improve the coverage and quality of primary healthcare (i.e. family medicine, general practice) in Georgia, with an emphasis on reaching the poor and disadvantaged.  In the long run, strengthening primary healthcare services is expected to have a positive impact on the health of the Georgian people through prevention, early detection and treatment of diseases (e.g. cardiovascular diseases, tuberculosis, and acute respiratory infections).  The project is an integral part of the Georgia government’s health sector strategy, and builds upon the work of the Bank-funded Health I project, which targeted cost-effective preventive and primary healthcare services.  For more information, please call Gina Ciagne at (202) 458.4166, fax at 522.3362, or e-mail Gciagne@worldbank.org.
