Georgia: First Poverty Reduction Support Operation

Washington, September 15, 2005- The following project was approved today by the World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors:

 

IDA CREDIT AMOUNT: US$13.5 million

TERMS: Grace period = 10 years; Maturity = 40 years

GRANT AMOUNT: $6.5 million

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:  This is the first of three operations envisioned in the country’s program to provide budgetary support for the Government’s reform program. The proposed poverty reduction operation is built on four reform pillars:  strengthen public sector accountability, efficiency, and transparency; improve electricity and gas sector services; improve the environment for private sector development; improve social protection, education, and health care services.
