WASHINGTON - The following project was approved today by the World Bank’s Board:
GRANT AMOUNT: US$15.5 million
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This grant will assist the government in preparing the country’s children and youth for the challenges of the future. The project will finance new textbooks and learning materials for primary and secondary schools throughout the country, under competitive procurement procedures. An improved performance management system for teachers and principals and a related revised salary scale will be developed and applied in two pilot oblasts – Issykul and Talas. A targeted, nationwide teacher fellowship program will attract and retain new teacher graduates in rural schools.
