| The Kyrgyz Republic became a member of the World Bank and the International Development Association (IDA) in September 1992. World Bank lending to the Kyrgyz Republic is based on the country's own development agenda, described in the National Poverty Reduction Strategy The Country Assistance Strategy (CAS) The CAS for the Kyrgyz Republic for the period 2003 - 2006 was approved by the World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors on 22 April, 2003. It serves as a roadmap for World Bank assistance to the country and is focused on helping the country achieve sustainable economic growth, provide essential services to the population and strengthen governance. More on the Country Assistance Strategy for the Kyrgyz Republic Loans and Grants Since 1992, IDA has approved credits for 38 projects in the Kyrgyz Republic for a total commitment of about US$ 776 million. The International Finance Corporation (IFC), the World Bank's private sector development arm, has approved 8 investment loans for a total commitment of approximately US$ 18.5 million.
