Small Grants Program 2004

Theme - Social Partnerships for the Empowerment of Vulnerable and Marginalized Groups

SmallGrants_2004The Small Grants Program for 2004, managed by the World Bank Country Office in Moldova, focused on  the theme 'Social partnerships for the empowerment of vulnerable and marginalized groups'.

An important feature of the 2004 SmGP was the inclusion of NGOs from outside the capital city of Chisinau. This was mainly the result of the recommendations of the National NGO Forum held in November 2004, as well as of the suggestions of the National NGO Council elected at the Forum.

Budget

The aggregate budget for the World Bank's 2004 SmGP was USD 3 million, of which USD 2.5 million was allocated to World Bank offices in client countries to be disbursed through competition. The number of World Bank offices implementing the SmGP increased by 16% this year. Consequently, there was an average reduction in the size of budgets provided to implementing offices.

In 2004, Moldova received an allocation of USD 20 thousand under the program. Moldovan NGOs submitted 29 projects for this year's program of which 7projects (or 24%) were approved for funding. The grant amounts offered this year ranged between USD 1,000 andUSD 3,800.
