OVERVIEW: Russian Federation

After a decade of high growth averaging 7% during 1999-2007 and solid growth in 2008 of 5.6%, the Russian economy is now experiencing a recession in the wake of the global financial crisis. Real economy and social impact on Russia was larger than anticipated. Russia’s real GDP is likely to contract about 7.9 percent in 2009.
