On March 1st, 2006, the World Bank Group’s Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) partnered with the Russian Association of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP) to co-host an investor conference in Moscow. Yukiko Omura, Executive Vice President of MIGA, headlined the event along with Russian business leaders Victor Vekselberg and Alexander Shokhin. As Ms. Omura’s first visit to Russia since joining MIGA in 2004, the focus of her mission was to reach out to Russian companies interested in investing in the CIS and other developing countries. At the conference, she stressed to an audience of more than 100 attendees the powerful role that Russian companies could play in developing the world’s poorest countries. In keeping with the agency’s strategy to promote regional integration and investments in infrastructure, Ms. Omura signaled the MIGA’s readiness to partner with Russian businesses as they begin to launch overseas operations. As a member of the World Bank Group, MIGA is mandated to facilitate foreign direct investment by providing its clients and member states with non-commercial risk guarantees and technical assistance. Since its inception in 1988, MIGA’s guarantee program has supported regional cross-border investments throughout the world. |
