January 22, 2007, Moscow - The workshop «Migration and Remittances: Eastern Europe and the Former Soviet Union Recent Experience» was held at the World Bank. The seminar was jointly prepared by the World Bank and the World Bank Institute. The main objectives of the proposed workshop included the following: presentation of the main conclusions and findings of the WB study "Migration and Remittances: Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union"; presentation of the relevant international practices for labor market projection, measurement of migration and attracting qualified migrants; and discussion of the applicability and effectiveness of the analytical and policy tools for migration policy in the RF. (agenda) Among the invitees were representatives from federal ministries and agencies involved in migration policy-making, representatives from international development agencies, International and Russian migration policy and labor market experts, as well as the media. Oscar de Bruyn Kops, Acting Russia Country Director, World Bank, Andrei Markov, Sr. Human Development Specialist, the World Bank, Said Batkibekov, Head of the Department for Strategy of Social and Economic Reforms, Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of RF, welcomed the participants in the seminar. The first plenary session was devoted to the WB report "Migration and Remittances: Eastern Europe and the Former Soviet Union, presented by Ali Mansoor and Bryce Quillin, WB experts, authors of the report. (presentation) Natalya Zharova, Head of the Labor Relations Department, Ministry of Healthcare and Social Development, and Zhanna Zaionchkovskaya, the Institute of National Economy Forecasting, Russian Academy of Science provided comments on the report followed by the open discussion. The second plenary session has focussed on policy tools for the immigration policy in the RF.
