The industrial profile of the Republic is shaped by the fuel production and petrochemical industries (oil production, manufacturing of synthetic rubber, tires, polyethylene and a wide range of oil conversion products), large machine-building enterprises producing competitive products (helicopters, aircraft and aircraft engines, heavy trucks, compressors and oil and gas transfer equipment), as well as well-developed electric and radio appliance manufacture.

The Republic is one of the three best regional agricultural producers in the Russian Federation.

Resources

The main sub-surface resource of the Republic is oil. The recoverable oil reserves amount to 800 million metric tons; estimated undiscovered oil reserves exceed 1 billion metric tons. In addition to oil, associated gas is produced at the rate of about 40 cubic meters per 1 metric ton of oil.
The Republic also has commercial reserves of lime, dolomites, mortar sand, building stone and calcium sulphate.

Specific Features of the Region

The Republic produces about 30 million metric tons of oil annually which is more than 6% of the total oil produced by Russia.
