October 29, 2009, Moscow ( Almaty, Astana, Bishkek, Dushanbe, and Tashkent connected via Videoconference) – Today, in the premises of the World Bank Russia Office the Reports devoted to climate change and global warming were presented by members of the WDR Team of authors, including Director of the WDR and Chief Economist of the World Bank’s Sustainable Development Network Marianne Fay, World Bank's Lead Environmental Specialist Ronald Hoffer, and Rachel Block, World Bank Consultant.
Main findings of both reports stress that policymakers should act now, act together, and act differently to tackle climate change.
Topicality of the Reports released well in advance of the December meetings on climate change in Copenhagen brought together the representatives of government authorities, civil society, think-tanks and media in 6 of the World Bank Europe and Central Asia Region Offices, including those in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
The dialogue and discussions were very lively and interesting covering the issues from adapting to climate change by selected countries to projects addressing issues of energy efficiency, low-carbon and alternative source technologies in the Region.
World Bank Chief Economist for Russia Zeljko Bogetic moderated the session.
