Thursday, May 13, 2010. Today, the World Bank Moscow Office will host a consultative meeting of Russia and World Bank officials to discuss the World Bank's Global Education Strategy 2020.

Among the invitees to the consultative meeting are representatives of Russia's federal and regional authorities, leading educational institutions, academia, think tank experts, and non-government institutions.

The objective of the consultations is to formulate proposals and ideas which could inform the "World Bank Group's Education Strategy 2020". The Strategy is expected to be submitted to the World Bank's Board of Directors in early 2011. A Concept Note for the Education Development Strategy has been designed as a framework for discussion, outlining the key goals and provisions of the proposed concept note.

The same day, on May 13 in the latter part of the consultative meeting, the World Bank and the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation propose to discuss joint activities in Europe and Central Asia in support of education. This discussion will lay the foundation for future operations of the Bank and Russia as a donor in Europe and Central Asia. Going forward, the discussion will be joined by countries - potential beneficiaries and education development program stakeholders which Russia could support in conjunction with the World Bank.
