The Ministry of Economic Development and the World Bank Group are hosting a South-South knowledge exchange workshop on competition policy and economic growth on May 31, 2011

MOSCOW, May 31, 2011 – The World Bank Group is hosting a South-South Knowledge Exchange workshop on “Competition policy and its contribution to economic growth” focusing on the Russia Federation and its Regions. The event is related to the development of competition policy in a number of Russian regions as well as to the preparation of a policy note on the same topic by the Finance and Private Sector Department of the World Bank’s ECA Region.  This GDLN event, organized by the World Bank’s ECA Private Sector Finance and GDLN teams, with the support of the World Bank Institute, is aimed at fostering knowledge exchange and supporting the overarching goal of improved competition for economic growth in Russia.   

Selected Russian Regions and Moscow will participate in this competition policy event. In order to leverage the experience accumulated around the world and to foster mutual learning, contributions to the workshop will be made by knowledgeable international experts as well as World Bank staff. 

This dialogue will be conducted using the World Bank’s country offices and GDLN affiliates to connect participants. Presentations will be sent to participants ahead of the meeting to facilitate their familiarization with the issues and to allow them to formulate questions or comments for discussion during the video conference.  Regions will be encouraged to submit the questions they would like to be addressed ahead of the meeting and they will offer their experience/perspectives on successes and challenges of their strategies during the meeting. These will be shared online, through Adobe Connect, during the video conference. 

The presentations will be translated into Russian and distributed to participants ahead of the GDLN session. During the session, interpretation services into Russian and English will be provided out of the Washington DC.
