"Food and Agriculture in Bulgaria" The World Bank releases a technical paper on the food and agriculture sector and its status in the preparation for EU Accession
The importance of the Bulgarian agricultural sector in the overall economy has remained high throughout the transition period, when compared to other Central and Eastern European countries. This World Bank report reviews the recent history and current state of Bulgarian agriculture and agribusiness. It examines the status of the sectoral reforms program, including reforms affecting pricing and trade, rural finance, land markets, and agribusiness, with emphasis on progress towards meeting the EU accession criteria. The report analyzes several strategies for adoption of the EU Common Agricultural Policy.
The report "Food and Agriculture in Bulgaria" is intended for agricultural scientists, public officials, politicians, agricultural and agribusiness leaders, economic researchers and others interested in the transformation of agriculture in the transition economies and in issues pertaining to accession of Central and East European candidate countries to the European Union.
