The World Bank Helps Ukraine Implement Reforms with Lasting Impact
The most acute social problem in Ukraine continues to be poverty, which remains at alarmingly high levels. Even though the number of citizens below the poverty line decreased from 29.4 percent in 1999 to 25.6 in 2002, this drop is not all that remarkable when one takes into account the high rate of economic growth in the country during the same period.
