Ukraine is one of the few countries in Europe and Central Asia in which the World Bank has already systematically supported a wide spectrum of civil society activities. Ranging from advocacy to public education and oversight of local and regional governments, the Bank has also supported civil society organizations’ (CSO) involvement in social service delivery projects, NGO coalition-building initiatives and public consultations.
Where did this work all begin? It began with the drafting of the 2000 Country Assistance Strategy (CAS) for Ukraine, which was continued under the new CAS for 2004-2007.
