World Bank Events in the U.S.

he United States Outreach Team facilitates the World Bank’s relations with the United States by:
  • Organizing meetings, seminars and conferences which bring together American constituencies and Bank managers/staff.
  • Serving as the main point of contact for American public inquiries.
  • Gathering and disseminating information related to country-specific matters.

In order to deepen public understanding of the Bank’s work in the United States, and to ensure that American concerns are reflected in the Bank’s policy discussions, the Office of the United States Executive Director and the Bank’s U.S. Outreach Team meet regularly with nationally based constituencies in the United States, including government officials, parliamentarians, academics, as well as representatives of NGOs, private sector companies and the media.

In addition to national constituencies, the U.S. Outreach Team visits states throughout the country on its “State Swings.” These tours bring local government officials, business leaders, universities, high schools, and the media together with Bank officials to educate them about the importance of the World Bank to the United States.

The U.S. Outreach Team has ongoing programs designed to educate Americans about the World Bank and the added benefits to helping the poorest people in the world improve living conditions and foster economic growth. The most significant economic benefit for the U.S. is measured in exports and jobs—jobs and revenues in the U.S. increase when poorer countries develop economically and socially. Across the U.S., 45 percent of exports are to developing countries in which the World Bank is active, supporting millions of American jobs.
