Objectives
The main purpose of the CReCER Conference is to create greater awareness of the importance of sound accounting and auditing practices for economic development. The conference will also take stock of the various initiatives that have been undertaken over the recent period to strengthen accounting and audit practices in LCR, both at a regional and country level, and will provide a forum for the sharing of good practices and innovative approaches to pressing issues in corporate and public sector financial reporting.
Finally, based on agreements reached during the conference, a CReCER Working Group will be established to promote and coordinate accounting and audit reform in participating LCR countries. The conference is expected to convene approximately 500 participants, including policymakers, senior civil servants, financial sector regulators, standard-setters, academics, accountants and auditors, private sector stakeholders, and the international donor community.
Specifically, the CReCER Conference will aim to:
-
Provide a platform for an exchange of regional good practices for strengthening accounting and
audit;
-
Identify priority reforms at the regional and national level and explore ways to effectively
implement such reforms;
-
Strengthen relations between national stakeholders and key international players, including the World Bank, IDB/MIF, IFAC, the International Accounting Standards Committee Foundation, the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions, and the World Bank;
-
Further the cooperation and harmonization of efforts among international organizations, including multilateral and bilateral donors; and
-
Build momentum for further cooperation among LCR countries in the accounting and auditing field.
